What is best practice? Multiple Multisite MCU Conferencing

Mark H

Hi,

We currently have two independent sites, each with their own MCU (MCU 8500 and a MCU 4505), multiple endpoints, VCS-ExpressWay and management (TMS) infrastructure. Currently we create a conference in each site, which has the MCU from the other site as a participant. This is not ideal as we get multiple pictures-in-picture, especially when using a 7+1 split format for each MCU.

What is the ideal way to handle this? The options I can think of are:

  1. Have all endpoints call one MCU instead of using both.
  2. Use a full screen format instead of 7+1 split.
  3. Does placing all the VC infrastructure in to the one TMS gain anything?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark.

1. Have all endpoints call one MCU instead of using both.

This will fix layout issue what you are facing and you can use all features for conferance like floor control etc .

Disadvantage will be bandwidth consumption , Each EP of other site  will consume call bandwith, if 5 Ep calling other MCU @ 1 mb then you will require 5mb for confrance .

If you have enough bandwidth this will be good option .

2. Use a full screen format instead of 7+1 split.

Advantage for this config is you will require 1mb to call far end MCU form local MCU .

Disadvantage - Layout .

3.Does placing all the VC infrastructure in to the one TMS gain anything?

Nothing .
