Cisco IM and Presence 9.x to 10.5.2

Hi All,

I need to upgrade a Cisco IM and Presence cluster 9.x to 10.x and surely it is a refresh upgrade. However there is a major change going from 9.x to 10.x when everything on the Presence become tightly coupled with Cisco UCM database.

So is there any configuration  change I must make, in order to make sure that all goes well post upgrade?

I have read the Read Me document and so far I don't see anything that I should be concerned about, however I will happy to be safer than sorry.

Thanks

Hi,

You can take a look to:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/unified-communications/unified-communications-manager-im-presence-service/118364-technote-cucm-00.html

This is related to refresh upgrade failure for IM&P, but that's the only thing that came to my mind.

Also remember as a best practice you should always have a valid DRS backup of the server in case of failure.

Hope this helps!

Tere.

Hi Tere,

I just wanted to make sure that if I were missing anything. I have not actually completed the upgrade yet.

I was wondering if there is any dependency that I must complete, either before or after the upgrade.

Regards

Hello Wilson,

Have you completed the IM&P up-gradation ? If yes, can you please share the procedure/experience which you have followed actually I need to upgrade CUP 8.6 to 10.5 for one of our customer and I have exactly same queries which you had.

In version 10.5, IMP is a subscriber of CUCM pub so did you make that entry under ''CUCM Admin -> System -> Server" before upgrading it ? and any other imp changes you made before and after upgrading IM&P.

Suresh

Hi Suresh,

Yes, I have had completed the migration the last weekend.

My experiences with the upgrade is that, it is much smoother and easier than I anticipated.

The database conversion happens automatically and the IMP Publisher automatically becomes part of the CCM Cluster.

No, I did not have to add the the Application Server.

I did not make any changes, per say, however I had to make sure that IMP version I was installing is compatible with that of the CCM server.

After upgrade I did check the services in the IMP Server and all were working as expected.

Thanks a lot Samuel for sharing yours expr (+5).
