CUCM 10.5 VM template change new HW incomatibility

Hi Experts,

I need to change VM template for CUCM, IM&P, CUC, UCCX because of additional IPT and UCCX users. IPT Platform version is 10.5 / 10.6. The current HW is UCS C240M3S, which has not enough resourse to be able to deploy bigger VM templates for UCCX, CUC and chanage VM for CUCM,IM&P.

It seems need new HW C240M5SX, but it seems this HW does not support 10.x templates.

I also wanted to do upgrade via PCD but just after that VMs have the new tamplate deployed and apps are up and running still with 10.x version.

Should the application deployment change and version upgrade (with migration to new HW) happen at the same time?

Cisco UC/IPT version 10.x is not supported on latest M5 hardware. You need at least 11.5 version OVA templates for M5 Hardware. Please check below URL for virtualization and hardware support:

Cisco UC/IPT version 10.x is not supported on latest M5 hardware. You need to perform migration and upgrade at the same time. You need at least 11.5 version deployed on M5 Hardware.

Note that Cisco PCD does not support migration/upgrade tasks for all applications. Please see below URL for more details:

Just the requirements to be a little more complicated:

Customer also wants to add more users to the cluster (which affects all type of applications) so need new OVA VM templates to deploy.

Can the VM template changing been done along with upgrade/migrate process >> meaning upgrading/migrating the Cluster into bigger OVA templates at the same time?

first need to upgrade/migrate VMs with the same size OVA deployment as it is currently and when the upgrade/migrate process finished can the VM deployments be increased?

>> for CUCM this is just to add vCPU and vRAM, but for CUC and UCCX this is rebuild of servers via DRS backup

For Cisco Unified CM & IMPS, you can use higher capacity OVA templates and perform migration/upgrade using Cisco PCD at the same time.

For Cisco Unity Connection and UCCX:

• First upgrade to the newer version on existing hardware
• Take DRS backup
• Deploy higher capacity OVA template on new HW
• Perform Fresh installation of application on new HW (host name, network settings and upgraded version must be same as old one).
• Restore backup on new application.

These are high level steps. You need to follow detailed steps in upgrade/installation guides. 

For CUCM, the virtual hardware requirement are almost same for 1000 and 2500 OVA Template. If you want to increase capacity from 1000 or 2500 to 7500 then Hard disc requirement changes from 80GB to 110GB. In this case you need to deploy new OVA template.
