CUCM and CUC Upgrade from 8.6 to 11.5

Hi All,

We are planning to upgrade our CUCM (2 nodes) and CUC version 8.6 to version 11.5 and we just want to know all the details that we need to consider during our upgrade. CUCM and CUC version 8.6 are currently installed on MCS Server. Here is the plan for the upgrade path:

1. Collect a DRS Backup for the existing CUCM and CUC ver 8.6

To minimize the downtime and to prevent an impact on the existing CUCM and CUC ver 8.6, we are planning to:

2. Install a CUCM version 8.6 on the UCS Server (Same network config) that is not connected on the network. For the NTP Server, we will just create or replicate the NTP Server so that CUCM will be able to reach it during the installation process. After this, we will upload/restore the DRS Backup we collected from step 1 to this newly installed CUCM 8.6 in UCS Server.

3. Will continue the upgrade of newly restored CUCM 8.6 in UCS Server to version 11.5 while it is still not connected on the network (so that it will not impact the existing CUCM version 8.6 and its operation) and will do the upgrade by performing below summary procedure:

 a. install necessary cop files like the ciscocm.refresh_upgrade_v1.5.cop.sgn, ciscocm.version3-keys.cop.sgn, ciscocm.free_common_space_v1.2.k3.cop.sgn, and etc on all the nodes.

b. Shutdown the CUCM VM and increase the disk space on the VM configuration, change VM OS from RedHat5 (32bit) to RedHat6 (64bit), and change VM nic from flexible to VMNIX3. Then power on the VM.

4. Upload and install the CUCM 11.5 Upgrade file on all CUCM nodes.

5. Perform Switch Version on all the CUCM nodes.

After upgrading the CUCM to 11.5, we will perform this same procedure to the CUC.

After CUCM and CUC are upgraded to 11.5, we have a UCCX which is currently on version 9.X. With this, we will also upgrade it to 11.5.

Appreciate your advise and inputs so that we can have a smooth upgrade/migration.

Thank you so much.
