D120JCTLSU Voice Board/Line Cord Question

This is a dumb, but important question.

Will it cause a problem of any sort if any point in the path from the voice board (6 conductor) is fed with a 4 conductor connection (i.e. the line cords or the patch panel). Since pins 1 and 6 are unused on the board I can't see why this would be problematic, but I've seen weird things on FXO ports on voice gateways with 4 conductor line cords because of some detection that happens, so you never know.

Thank you,

Stephanie

Most installations of Unity with analog voice boards will only use the Tip/Ring connections. Pins 1 and 6 are for EarthRecall signaling. If you PBX/installation requires EarthRecall then you'll need these pins. Otherwise, don't worry about it. All of our internal testing on US phone systems use just 2-pair (4-wire) cabling.

For more detail look for technical specifications from the hardware manufacturer. Here's a page that shows pinouts for the D120 voiceboard ...
