Good aevening,

I have been assigned to a project to migrate from a legacy PABX to a CUCM solution using the Cisco UCS C220 M4 Servers and Cisco VG350 Voice Gateways.

Unforutnately I haven't done much before in terms of Voice and telephony. i will be well supported thrughout the duration of the project, however some introductory information would be helpful.

Can anybody help me getting started please? Does anybody have any useful information regarding CUCM, PABXs and elephony principles?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there

All the best for you and wishing to turn out your project into a successful one. If you can provide the migration deployment model, like from what pbx you your migration to CUCM. Is that going to be a Phased migration, Fresh Cut or a Dual parallel run one.

Below is a great presentation you can start with,

+5 for the welcoming and encouraging tone....

Fatastic, thank you so much for the mateiral!

I am migrating from a Siemens HiPath which only has 400 or so circuits, mostly Direct Lines which are hotlines/PLARs so hopefully will be fairly straightforward. The migration will be a straght cutover from the HiPath to the CUCM in one night.

Another query I have so far is regarding some of the circuits that terminate onto the HiPath which need migrating.

1. Two of the circuits  conect to the HiPath originate from other PABXs: an Ericsson MD110 (circuit 1234) and a Meridian (circuit 5678). These circuits I know to be hotlines/PLARs and teminate onto the HiPath via exchange/FXO cards (MD110) and subs/FXS cards respectively (Meridian). These comunicate to a phone on the HiPath (Admin)

I believe I need to know how the calls are routed from the MD110 and Meridian to the HiPath and then routed to the Admin phone. I will have access to the HiPath configuration but not the other PABXs. I believe it is particularly more important with circuit 1234 as this is an exchnage/FXO card on the CUCM/VG350. Is this correct and if so, what information do I need to know?

2. Five of the circuits conect to the HiPath originate from the PSTN in a similar manner to connectivity to the MD110 (i.e. each line connected to an FXO card on the HiPath. I guess the configuration is similar, however as these are not hot lines these will be SIP trunks so it provides the ringing?

Best regards

Hi Cisco Rath!

Could you help me with my query below please?

Thank you!

My recommendation is to engage certified Cisco partner as there are too many variables to deploy full Collaboration Cisco suite of applications with no prior experience CORRECTLY.  You can probably get around to make phones ring and make calls, but to ensure all aspects are deployed to best practice, etc. requires knowledge of the apps, technology, underlying infrastructure (route and switch, security, PKI, network services, servers, telco integrations, etc). Deploying things incorrectly can cause many issues, including user perception that "Cisco sucks" (I have seen it way too many times), open up for potential security concerns, incorrect/unsupported deployment which may lead to Cisco TAC refusal of assisting with issues, etc.
