I have MOC 2007 (OCS server / MOC client) set up and working for IM/Exchange-based presence.
Using CUCM 8.6.2 and CUPS 8.6.3
I would like to be able to use the MOC as a soft-phone (sharing the same extension as our desk phones). I will not need desk phone control, just soft phone.
I've found a guide called:
"Configuring Cisco Unified Presence Release 8.0, 8.5 and 8.6 with
Microsoft OCS for Microsoft Office Communicator Call Control"
Question 1: Is this the guide I need for setting this up?
Question 2: Should I be using the product in this guide instead (in in addition to) the above guide?
"Installation Guide for Cisco Unified Communications Integration for Microsoft Office Communicator Release 7.1"
It almost seems like there are two paths. The first lets you integrate call control and the second give you a nice bar at the bottom of MOC that does all kinds of extra stuff. I'm just looking for some 5000 foot view explanations of my options.

So, you have 2 options:
1. Use RCC as you listed, not recommended by Cisco nor MSFT, thoiugh supported, but you are still on your own.
2. Implement CUCI-Lync and use MSFT MOC/Lync for presence and IM and Cisco for call control.
If you go with option 1 keep in mind that you will end up with 2 PBXes, CUCM and MSFT Lync/OCS which means you will manager 2 systems, dial plan is not going to be pretty unless your current CUCM implementation uses +e164 format as that is what MSFT wants to see, so normalization rules will need to be used.
Sorry to say this but in my opinion Cisco and MSFT do not play nicely together and either solution will disappoint your user base. Just my humble opinion based on experience.
