HI Everyone

I'm new to VMware and we are moving all of our applications off of our MCS servers to UCS servers. I've gotten the ESXi software installed on the server and I've installed the OVA's. Now I want to know what do I need to do to get the software onto the VM, is there a manual that can show me step by step on how to do this, because what I want to do is do a base install of CUCM 7.1.3 which I have to DVD.and then upgrade to 8.6.2 which I have the upgrade software for and then do a restore of the 8.6.2 to import the settings and then upgrade to 9.1. Any help would greatly be appreciated and thanks in advance for the help.

No, that's not supported.

8.0(2) is the first CUCM version supported on ESXi, you need to go to AT LEAST that version on MCS, then do a backup, and then restore on the VM.

Once you're on VM, then you can upgrade to 9.1

If you're looking for a step by step guide on how to configure ESXi, deploy OVA/OVF templates, configure vSwitch, storage, etc. You need to look into VMware site for such guides.

Unless this is for your own training or you're trying to build a small lab, I'd suggest you to look someone to assist you onsite with this, specially if this is for a customer deployment.

I bought this book on Amazon and it's a great reference if you're new to ESXi

Hi,

-Upgrade on the MCS server from 7.1.3 to 8.5.1, install the upgrade files

(from licensing) and do a backup

-Then install 8.5.1 on the VMware and restore

-Rehost Licenses and upgrade to 9.1.1

--------------------------------------------

Please note that you adhere to the hardware requirements for the intermittent stage of CUCM version.

72 GB for -H2, -I2 and older. For version 8.0(3) through 8.5, 146 GB strongly recommended, required for 8.6(1)+

146 GB for -I3 and HP DL380G6

Note: if you add disk/RAM to a 7835-H2/I2 to make it match  configuration of 7835-H2/I2 V02, please update Cisco SmartNet contract  coverage with your Service Account Manager to ensure continuity of TAC  support and correct RMA's.

Our MCS server is already running 8.6.2 what I want to know is the steps to start from scratch on the UCS servers.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but the steps that I would take would be

1.Install 7.1.3 on the VM server and then upgrade it to 8.6.2

2.Do a restore 8.6.2 to the freshly upgraded version of 8.6.2 on the VM

3.Rehost licenses and upgrade to 9.1.1

Thanks for the info Jaime, I  didn't know that I had to start out with no lower than 8.0 on the CUCM VM.

So it seems like I"m going to have to order all new base install DVD through our vendor because when I was hired last year for the upgrade they went from 7.1.3 to 8.6.2 so the only base intall DVD's that  I have are version 7 and we are looking at moving all of our stuff to VM such as CUC,UCCX,CUPS,CUCM. This really such because it takes about 2 weeks to get the intall media. But thanks for the good info and have as always I really appreciate it.
