Unity backup - tricky question

We have Unity 4.0(3), Exchange 5.5, SQL & Unity are all in the same box. Only AD is separate ( integrated with company's main domain).

We are taking regular backups with DiRT.

Question is - Server Team uses HP Data Protector to backup all the hard drives along with "system state". Now, assuming we are not running DiRT, in the event of a total system crash, will the HP DP backup suffice ? Can we restore Unity with only HP DP backup. Personally, I don't think so, but any other expert opinion is most welcome.

Personally I don't think you can ever have too many backups (within reason). I run DiRT and have it copied off to a remote server and then that remote folder gets backed up on tape. I also backup the whole server with Backup Exec with the Exchange Agent. So I could restore individual VMs or VM Boxes if needed or restore the whole entire server. Not sure if the HP DP gives you that option or not.

Plus DiRT will allow you to just restore your Unity infomration/configuration if you just need to restore your Unity rather than the whole server, OS...etc.

Mike,

Thnaks for the feedback.

Abhijit.

Hi Mike and all,

How do you schedule DiRT? I didn't see anything in the utility.

Thanks,

Randall

Fire up the DiRT Backup Tool and lookup under the 'Options' menu at the top. Click on 'Schedule Regular Backups'. It will bring up the 'Disaster Recovery Backup Scheduler' dialog.

that was it.

I just didn't see the menu options.

Thanks,

Randall
