Unity Server and domain/network login issues

I know this is not really Unity-related, but have a client where the server has been running fine for months and last week it started to have domain issues and/or issues talking to the windows network.

What happens is the unityadmin account is unable to login to windows server itself, or any domain account is unable to login. Unity is still up and running fine since services did not restart.

The temporary fix is to remove the unity server from the domain, then add it back to domain, then we can log in again with domain accounts for a bit. But then a day later or so, the same problem where can't login with domain account.

If you right click on My Computer, then Manage then under there click on users and group, and groups, and then properties on administrator group it does not list the names, but the SIDs of the domain accounts in the group.

Client wants to know if the unity server is required to be in a Domain. This is with notes/domino. Their domino/notes servers are in a workgroup and not a domain and on windows 2003 servers as with the rest of their network. Unity is only server on windows 2000. Client claims they have no domain/network issues but doesn't like domains and wants to put server in a workgroup if possible.

Just wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before.

Even though Unity's partner server is a domino server, the accounts used to start the services are domain accounts.

It is possible that your cust has applied group policies that is causing the unity service accounts to fail. My suggestion is to put the unity accounts into an OU that does not allow Group Policies to be applied to it.

Ok. Because the problem they have happens shortly after they disjoin/rejoin the domain. They are able to login when they first rejoin server to domain but awhile later (short timeframe - not exact on when it stops) the domain accounts can't login to server anymore but unity is up/running, just can't in for system admin, remote desktop, etc.

The unity design guide for domino, states the unity hs to be a domain controller or member of a windows 2000 domain. I'm guessing a member of a windows 2003 domain is ok to? How about if they wanted unity server to be not in a domain and just a workgroup, would that work at all and be supported if it worked? I have not tried it myself. The customer keeps asking about not being in a domain because they don't like domains for some reason.

I don't know why they are having the problems with login.

I can answer the other question - Unity has be in a Windows 2000 domain or be in its own domain (thus making it a DC).
