Adding a failover server

Hi there,

We have built a Unity server and at the time of installation we chose not to use Failover. If we now wanted to now add a second server and use it as a failover server, do we have to rebuild the first server? I seem to remember being asked during the initial installation if we wanted to use failover and we obviously said no...

Also has anyone any idea if we can buy the failover licenses with this second server? Or did we have to buy the failover licenses at the time we bought the first server?

Any help appreciated!

Not really. You have to although make sure you did install SQL and not MSDE as FO requires SQL. Just install the second server as an independent Unity server using the demo license that comes with every Unity server. Integrate it to the same AD as you did with the first Unity server. Once the installation of the failover server is complete, run the failoverconfig.exe from Commserver folder to setup Failover between the two servers.

Note that all the above requires that you buy failover licenses (ports only) and get that PAK number registered with Cisco licensing and get that license installed on the primary Unity server before attempting the above procedure.
