Cisco ISR 4331 with NIM-1MFT-T1/E1 and PVDM

Hi folks

We want to replace our Cisco 2921/2951 with Cisco 4331 routers.

I have seen that the NIM-1MFT-T1/E1 modul requires a dedicated PVDM4 module.

How i have to calculate the right amount of PVDM's? Are the PVDM on the NIM

and the PVDM on the motherboard strictly seperated? I mean, if the PVDM on the

motherboard is not enough, will the gateway use ressources from the PVDM on the

NIM or not?

We use a centralized CUCM and at each location, we have a gateway with one

or two PRI. We use also voice recording trough the gateway.

Anybody can help me or give me a hint how to calculate the right amount of PVMD

on the NIM module as well as on the motherboard?

Thank you very much.

Kind regards,

Pascal

Pascal,

You can use the Cisco DPM calculator found here.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kelli

I could find this calculator. Thats good to know how much I need.

My second question was about the difference between DSP on the E1/T1 Module and the DSP's

on the Motherboard of the Router. Are they seen by the CUCM as a Total Amount or separated?

Thank you very much.

If you are referring to transcoding or conferencing resources then any dsp not used by the T1 card can be shared with the one on the motherboard

Pascal,

One additional note about 43XX and PVDM.   When you configure the PVDM, the module on the motherboard is dedicated for supplementary features (transcoding, etc) but can NOT be used to terminate a PRI.  However, if you put the module on the T1/E1 module, it CAN be used for the transcoding features required by the system.

Hi people

Thank you very much for your answers.

That helps me a lot to buy the right stuff.

I wish you a nice week.
