Cisco Unified Communications and Collaboration

Hi Guys.

We are comparing Cisco with other solutions from a On Premises perspective as potential solution in near future. We have some queries and done some research on the subject. We will be most grateful if one of the collaboration experts can explain as well as verify if our understanding of the Cisco Communications and Collaboration product is correct. You are most welcome to advice on the alternate products as well.

VoIP Phones - The Phones will register to the CUCM Server. We are thinking that we would require a CUCM instead of a BE6K or a BE7K. Our Users are approximately 3000 with Names.

ISDN Trunks - The ISDN Trunks would terminate on the T1 links on a ISR Router.

SIP Trunks - The SIP Trunks would terminate on the CUBE. The CUBE will be hosted off the ISR Router. If the Router is of a decent size, then both the T1s as well as the SIP Trunks may be hosted of the same Router.

Survivability Main Site - At the same sites, we can two CUCM for the VoIP Endpoints. The Active and Standby.

Survivability Remote Sites - At the Remote Site, the VoIP Phones will still register to the Main Site. When dialing out, they will use trunks at any sites. Example if all Main Site Trunks are busy, connect out using the Trunks of the Remote sites.

Remote Site Automated Attendant - Any calls to the Remote site ( from outside) will terminate at the ISR Router at the Remote Site and play the Automated Attendant at the Remote Site.  The Open/Close Messages should be played of the Remote if the calls are entering the system from the Remote site instead of the calls coming to the Main Site for the Greetings. Not sure if this is possible on the ISR Routers.

Voicemail and Voicemail to Email - We need a Central Voicemail System with Voicemail to Email capability for the users. Is it correct that all of this will be done off the Cisco Unity Connection

IMP - Requires a Central solution for the Instant Message and Presence. I believe IMP server needs to be bought. I am not sure how the licencing works in here.

Extensions on Smart Phones - We need the office extension to ring on the Smart Phones for selective staff over 4G Internet. Would we need the Cisco Expressway C and Expressway E. Would this be virtuliased or would be running on separate Routers. Also would Jabber connect through the Expressway C&E. Does Jabber still need to cross the CUBE for security.

Video Conferencing System - We need Multi Party Video conference system, to be hosted at the Main Site. Done some research I think we can two solutions - Webex or CMS. But then Webex is off the Cloud. Is it true that CMS is the On Premise Video Collaboration System from Cisco. We need the solution so that both Internal and External clients can connect to the Conference System and users be able to setup collaboration rooms. Does the users connecting from outside should be passed through the CUBE for the security checks.

Session Border Controller - Is the CUBE the Session Border Controller from Cisco.

Call Management System - What are some Call Management Systems from Cisco. This is to run reports - Stations Reports, Trunk Reports etc on the Call Usage.

Please if anyone can advice me.

Adrian.

VoIP Phones - The Phones will register to the CUCM Server. We are thinking that we would require a CUCM instead of a BE6K or a BE7K. Our Users are approximately 3000 with Names. BE6K and Be7K Is the Model. they both use same CUCM version. but the OVA will be different and that defines the number of devices supported by these platforms.you need a Be7K to cover the 3000 users.

ISDN Trunks - The ISDN Trunks would terminate on the T1 links on a ISR Router. YES it will be terminated on a router and we call it  Voice Gateway.

SIP Trunks - The SIP Trunks would terminate on the CUBE. The CUBE will be hosted off the ISR Router. If the Router is of a decent size, then both the T1s as well as the SIP Trunks may be hosted of the same Router. SIP trunk can be terminated on same Voice Gateway.

Survivability Main Site - At the same sites, we can two CUCM for the VoIP Endpoints. The Active and Standby. you can do  clustering. publisher and  subscribers.

Survivability Remote Sites - At the Remote Site, the VoIP Phones will still register to the Main Site. When dialing out, they will use trunks at any sites. Example if all Main Site Trunks are busy, connect out using the Trunks of the Remote sites. SRST means if the phones in remote is unable to register with the CUCM due to to some network outage, they register with the branch gateway if SRST configurations and licenses  are available and make use of the branch ISP connection to call out.

There is a feature called BACD which can be activated on Router.

Voicemail and Voicemail to Email - We need a Central Voicemail System with Voicemail to Email capability for the users. Is it correct that all of this will be done off the Cisco Unity Connection. Unity Connection will be used for voicemail. you can do AA on unity connection using system call handler.

IMP - Requires a Central solution for the Instant Message and Presence. I believe IMP server needs to be bought. I am not sure how the licencing works in here. There is no additional license installed on IM. CUCM is the licensing node. CUWL,ENh+,EEh,Basic,Ess are the license (user, device).

The feature you looking is MRA(Mobile Remote Access). Expressway E and C run an Vmware, it can run on same Be7k server. all traffic  will landed on your Public IP and through expressway E-C it reach CUCM.

Does the users connecting from outside should be passed through the CUBE for the security checks.CMS will be a good option if you plan for Onprem.

Session Border Controller - Is the CUBE the Session Border Controller from Cisco. YES

Call Management System - What are some Call Management Systems from Cisco. This is to run reports - Stations Reports, Trunk Reports etc on the Call Usage. You can use Cisco real time Monitoring tool.
