CUCM 9.1.2 new SIP phone random extention?

Whenever we configure a new 8841 it is randomly assigned an extension before we permanently configure it a proper extension.  Is there a way to setup a pool of valid extensions and have it pick one from there instead of randomly?  The boss is asking, and I inherited a system I know nothing about. :)

You can change the pool of numbers for auto registration under System > Cisco Unified CM.
