CUCM Call Recording

Hi all,

My new superintendent is wanting specific users to be able to record their phone conversations if needed. Right now, we're on CUCM v7.1 and Unity v8.5. I have Live Record working right now in our environment. He doesn't like the fact that the person is put on hold for a second to conference in the other line. He would like it to where all you need to do is press a softkey. He also does not want us to spend any money on this. So, I really have 3 questions:

1. Is the above scenario possible given our current versions?

2. Is there a way to limit what phones have access to dial the "conference" extension?

3. If the above isn't possible, will it be once we get v11?

Thank you in advance!

I don't believe there is an easier option for you right now, besides buying a 3rd party option, once you upgrade you can use MediaSense, it's quite easy to configure, you also need to only press a softkey, or it can be configured to record all the time.

The number of people you can conference is configured in CUCM

Is MediaSense free with CUCM?

No, it is not free and secondly you will at least need to upgrade your CM to 8.5 or above in order to Media Sense

And on my no. 2 question, I meant is there a way limit who can have access to dial the conference number? We just want only 8 specific people in our district to have access to record their conversations.

The above question has actually two parts. In order to restrict who can call the conference number can be controlled using CSS/Partition. For the second part wherein you want to limit the users to record their conversations is also possible using Media Sense. You can simply configure a Record softkey on their phones only so that they can record whenever they want on the fly. Else you can configure Automatic Recording for those users only which means any incoming or outgoing calls for them will be recorded by default and not for other users.

"He also does not want us to spend any money on this." - not easy to meet such a requirement :)

But if there are 3 "specific users" wanting to use the on-demand recording you can get a free promo-license of PhoneUP software. The free license is perpetual and includes 3 seats for call recording - http://aurus5.com/phoneup/record/
