CUCM: Disaster Recovery / Backup Utility

We are running CUCM v10.5.2.15900-8 with a Publisher and a Subscriber on two UCSC-C240-M4SX hosts.

For years, our backups ran using freeSSHd on a Windows7 box without any issues. However, after we upgraded the hosts from ESXi 5.5 to 6.5.0, the backups on Call Manager fail nightly. The UCCX and Unity backups on the same hosts run successfully, only the Call Manager backup fails with the following error:

Result Code : 109-Unable to transfer the tar file over SFTP channel as currently configured SFTP server does not support output stream
Result String : ERROR

Is there another comparable, Windows-based utility that can be used for the backups?

Cisco does not support using the SFTP product freeFTPd. This is because of the 1 GB file size limit on this SFTP product. Cisco uses the following servers for internal testing. You may use one of the servers, but you must contact the vendor for support:

  • Open SSH
  • Cygwin
  • Titan

Another recommended solution is to use SFTP Server on Cisco Prime Collaboration Deployment (PCD). This server is provided and tested by Cisco, and supported by Cisco TAC. If you have enough space on your virtual environment, you can install Cisco PCD and it doesn't require any license.

Please rate helpful posts and if applicable mark "Accept as a Solution".

Cisco recommendation is (or used to be) Titan. https://titanftp.com/ You can run a time-limited trial which should be sufficient for you to confirm that it fixes your issue. Or if it doesn't then you can raise it with TAC since you're using a Cisco supported SFTP server.

James,

I have been using SolarWinds SFTP without any issues on

ESXi 6.5.0.23000
