Assuming you are looking at Cisco call control a lot depends on your customer's environment. If you feel that you have a large investment in MSFT technologies such as Office, SharePoint etc then CUCI-MOC is the best solution since it allows you to use MSFT on the desktop with the tried and tested Cisco Voice Services in the backend. Cisco with it's CSF Framework gives you the choice of using MOC or other clients on the desktop and getting all the access to Cisco UC services in the backend. If you are already licensed for MSFT STD or EA licensing then CUCI-MOC is the way to go. Also currently MOC supports federation, chat logging, group chat, emoticons etc

Cisco CUPC has rich deep integrations with Cisco UC and will soon have all those features such as multi party chat, logging etc. I would suggest having a white board session with your local Cisco SE to further dive deep into the pros and cons of both clients and the future roadmap to determing the right fit. Also with CUWL licensing you have a choice of all these clients so you can decide which one fits best your needs

Yes, CUP 8.0 with CUPC 8.0 greatly extend the enterprise IM capabilities available including secure rich text, group chat, permanent chat rooms, IM History, IM logging and compliance, multi-device IM support, File Transfer as well as enhanced open APIs and enhanced media escalations. These new EIM features in conjunction with the CUP always-on rich presence, the broad range of Business to Business and  Business to Consumer IM federations and support for numerous clients with CUPC 8.0 such as Cisco Agent Desktop, Cisco Unified Expert Advisor and 3rd party XMPP clients truly provides a tight solution integration around all Cisco UC applications.

Is CUPC 8.0 released yet? We have been waiting along time for Group Chat Capabilities and also stability of CUPC Client. We are currently running 7.02 on both MAC and PC.

CUPC 8.0 FCS target is Q2CY10.

Hi Steve,

I'm working with a customer at the moment and they use Cisco VTA with their 7900 series phones for point to point video.

I have demostrated CUP 7 which supports video calls when using the CUPC softphone but not when using the deskphone.

Will CUPC 8 enable point to point video call with the deskphone control?

Regards,

CUPC 8 can support deskphone video, I believe the only restriction is WOW 64 bit doesn't support deskphone video

hi Mike,

Apologies for the delay in response.

Here is a response from Joshua Chase, the CUPC PM

Srini's response is correct. CUPC 8.0 will be able to provide video on the PC while in desktop control mode ala CUVA ( Cisco Unified Video Advantage is the current name of what used to be Cisco VTA). Like CUVA, this will require a direct ethernet connection from the PC to the IP Phone (i.e. tethered). We also will be enhancing our video capabilities to support CIF, VGA, and 720p HD video resolutions - assuming the video camera, network connection, and PC can support them as well. We are currently investing if there will be any restrictions when the client is running on a 64-bit Windows operating system. We will have that finalized within the next month.

Thanks everyone.

I look forward to any updates next month

Faure, the catch being gong the Cucimoc way completely bypasses the enterprise voice capabilities of OCS2007 when you attempt to make a call to your telephony network.

The widget is simply a softphone equivalent - guys correct me here.

Moreover, that takes up 1 x DLU (device license unit) out of your pool regardless you have Microsoft CALs or not; kind of piches me there.

Lastly, from what I have come to understand during my design stages which is still ongoing, CUPS is a more elegant integration and all future developments between Cisco and Microsoft is I beleive going to be that road.

cisco Product/PM specialists may verify on the above.

Besides, you ops and support teams get another management overhead of installing the Widget in each laptop and handling issues that come out of it.

Anyone heard of blue screens in certain instances of CUCIMOC operation?

Regardless, fast and simple and an interim solution is CUCIMOC should you wish to have users in your enteprise being able to get the feeling of calling out using OCS, which actually happens via Cisco as Srini rightly said...

-- Deskphone mode is also there

DLU issues can be mitigated with CUWL but yes you have to pay for the OCS client outside CUWL of course. Also to your comment about CUPC/CUPS with 8.0, the lines do get blurred as CUPC gets a "makeover" and as mentioned in the previous posts develops enterprise class features like logging, HD video support etc

CUCI-MOC too is developing some exciting features such as native video support (HD too), visual voicemail, click to share with MP/WebEx, enhanced click to call options within MSFT apps through call ribbons etc. I like the "Presence bubbles" embedded into MSFT apps which you will get with CUCI-MOC which doesn't exist with CUPC 8 AFAIK. So at the end of the day the right answer is to sit down and understand the needs of the customer and see which client best suits their needs. While every vendor loves to sell their solution end to end, the right client is that which fits the business needs of the customer such as one in which the client already has some investment in as an example. The key point is flexibility

One key feature sorely missing with CUCIMOC and CUPC 8 is clientless VPN. That does need to be fixed ASAP. We have provided that feedback to Cisco that it does need to make it's way (back) into future roadmap. The other is browser based clients. While WebEx connect does have this, it is for IM and Team spaces. Full support of voice/sharing is required to support clients who are moving to a browser based model

Thanks

Srini

Bring VPNless and Browser to CUPC please
