When I 'm trying to add a backup device under DRS it fails with an error (update failed : unable to access sftp server. Please ensure the username and password are correct.)
I need to find the logs for the issue. Can I collect logs for sftp in RTMT. ???

If you want to look at the specific protocol and what happens, you'd need a packet capture.
