We are in the midst of migrating to new hardware; application currently installed was CUCM,CUC& IMP in version 12.0, but we intend to migrate these applications to new hardware and upgrade to version 14. Could you please assist me with the PCD migration and upgrading procedure?

All the UC applications are in cluster with 2 nodes, i want to migrate the entier cluster to new infrastructure?

If you don't necessary need to migrate to new virtual machines you can just simply move the VMs from the old host(s) to the new and then upgrade it to version 14.

Our requirement is to migrate the VM to new hardware; during the migration process will it be possible to upgrade and migrate the task at same time?

If you mean do it in the same maintenance window then yes, that's really on the planner side of whomever does the work. You can do anything that you see fit and have time to do within the allotted time for the maintenance window. To be clear these are separate tasks or steps if that makes sense. The process that your looking at would be these.

  1. Move the VM with vMotion in vCenter. This can be done either on-line or off-line, depending on your specific functionality in your system landscape.
  2. Once moved to the new host and verified to work as expected you can proceed with the upgrade.
  3. As the upgrade completes verify that it works as expected.

Word of advice, if you use MRA in your system you'd be looking at putting this workaround in place when you get to CUCM 14.

Move the VM with vMotion in vCenter. This can be done either on-line or off-line, depending on your specific functionality in your system landscape.--> Do we required any additional licenses of Vmware hypervisor to perform this?

Once moved to the new host and verified to work as expected you can proceed with the upgrade--> Once moved to new host; will there be any challenge in file sytems and will it work as expected?

We are having standlone vm hypervisor on old server and new server(V2V); How to proceed with Vmotion?

Hi,

if you dont intent to use the same IP address, you can utilise the data import method available in the call manager 14. Please refer the following link for more details:

CUCM 14 Fresh Install with Data Import

PCD way

in nut shell.

  1. Run pre upgrade cop file on all nodes and remediate if any error observed.
  2. Prepare the new host by deploying the OVA for CUCM 14.
  3. Configure the PCD with ESXI inventory (Source hosts, Destination hosts), existing UC cluster( source cluster)
  4. Map the source cluster with destination ova instances
  5. initiate the migration task.

but strongly recomend to read the migration document before you proceed with the migration.

Regards,

We intend to use the same network information; so in this scenario the source node will be powered off and ipPhones will be moved destination cluster?

Hi Siva,

either you can follow as @Roger Kallberg mentioned if you have a Vcenter in your setup, it will be fast and convinient. What I have seen in the most of the UC setup generally saperate from the general VM estate of the customer and may not have a Vcenter. you can still use the PCD migration where the PCD shutdown the source cluster during the migration window. you dont need to do anything on the phone end as the phone re-register with the new call manager cluster. Recently I did a migration and below are the steps. (only take it as a reference. please do follow the steps and procedure in the PCD migration / CUCM 14 migration documents)

  1. Install PCD on BE7K#
  2. Upload the ISO file into SFTP location of PCD under /fresh_install directory
  3. Ensure that the new UC VM’s in BE7K are powered off.
  4. Discover the source UC cluster
  5. Define the target ESXi hosts
  6. Add CUCM Bootable ISOs to PCD SFTP Server (adminsftp user, fresh_install folder)
  7. ESXi Hosts using applicable OVA(Define a migration destination cluster
    1. Map Source Nodes to Destination VirtualVMs
  8. Add Migration Task
    1. Choose Source UC Cluster
    2. Choose Destination Cluster
    3. Choose Migration Files (Bootable ISOs)
    4. Schedule or start the migration
  9. Monitor the task and once we see the Status as Successful against all the Nodes, then the migration is successful. This process may take few hours depending on the number of nodes we have deployed and database size as well

  10. Install locale UK-GB in to call manager.

Regards,

Shalid

Can i follow the same process for (CUC & IMP) clusters?
