Plantronics C054-XD usb connected to CP 8851 volume constantly goes low

Hello, 

Sort of a shot in the dark to see if this issue can be solved, but worth a try.  I'll say up front, I'm too familiar with our VOIP system, I primarily manage the DATA network only. 

 

Issue is, we use Cisco CP 8851 phones throughout the organization, and almost all users are issued a Plantronics C054-XD usb headset. 

 

What is happening, across the board with all users, is that you'll be actively using your Plantronics headset, and all of a sudden the volume on the headset goes extremely low, to the point you think the call is disconnected, but it isn't.  I've found that if you jiggle the cable connected to the phone via the USB slot, the volume will return to normal, problem is, this can happen repeatedly while on a call, and for some users, a full reboot of the phone is needed. 

 

I use the same combination of hardware, so I always jiggle the cable to adjust the sound, but I'm curious if this is a known issue,  would it possibly be an issue with model of phone + firmware? 

 

Firmware on the CP 8851 is SIP88XX.11-7-1-17. 

 

Any thoughts on what might be the issue?
