Presence between 2 CUPS/CUCM clusters

I am a bit unclear if presence is supported between 2 different CUPS/CUCM clusters. They both exist within the same WAN, but have just evolved as two seperate clusters. There is an ICT between the CUCM systems. The CUPS systems aren't actually installed as yet.

I can see various documents discussing intercluster federation such as:

Although it mainly talks about OCS federation but does mention other CUPS clusters.

I don't think we have a need for TLS in this scenario, so would I still need ASA involvement?

Which seems more appropriate. Although the document seems to state the different clusters should be in the same "domain". I guess its the interpretation of that which is confusing me.

In my case they are in the same network, but different CUCM clusters and different AD domains.

So which model am I looking at?

And if possible does anyone know specifically which presence features are supported/not supported in my scenario between the CUPS clusters?

Your confusion is not uncommon.  This lead to the old topic of CUPS - "Is LDAP required or not?".

Officially, LDAP is "optional".  But practically, LDAP is required.  Because lots of CUPS/CUPC features rely on LDAP.  That's why the doc said "one domain is recommended".

If you have two CUCM cluster and two LDAP (more acurrately, two LDAP forests), you'll lose some features when you try to communicate with a "foreign user".

If the two domains are actucally in the same forest, it's considered as "one LDAP".  You have no problem at all.

Thanks Michael. I had intended to go for LDAP integration, but actually their CUCM clusters aren't at the moment, although I'm trying to sell the virtues of that to them, so they should be at some point.

I'll check with the customer if both domains exist in the same forest.

If they don't exist in the same forest, what sort of features would they lose? I'm guessing its directory lookup/buddy type features? Could you elaborate?
