Problems with BARS application

Hello,

I am having problems to back up an IPCC server using the BARS tool however, both CCMs are being backed up successfully.

I have looked up for this problem and one of our technicians applied this workaround but it did not work:

1. Close all instances of the IE (browser) sessions.

2. In the BARS server, go to Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Component Services.

3. Go to Component Services > Computers > My Computer > COM+ Applications.

4. In the right pane, right-click BARS, and choose Shut down.

5. Restart the Internet Information Server (IIS) Admin Service from the Service Control Panel.

6. Rerun the Restore/Backup that failed.

Does anyone know what could be happening?

Regards,

Hi,

I guess you got it from this doc..

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/custcosw/ps1846/products_tech_note09186a00809a752c.shtml#topic1

What version of CCM are you using as this is a known bug for v4. If Cisco's recommendation doesn't work I'd re-start the BARS server and try a manual backup again.

What version of CCM and UCCX are you using?

Please rate useful posts..

Not sure whether you are using this version but here's the bug info:

CSCef13462

CRS Backup gets GET_FROM_ARCHIVE_REQUEST failed with error: -2147417842

Symptom:

CRS Backup or Restore failed due to "GET_FROM_ARCHIVE_REQUEST failed with error:

-2147417842". BARS log shows:

[02:10:40 AM] Staging Cisco Customer Response Solutions target Ipcc

[02:10:40 AM] Opening session for backup on Ipcc

[02:10:40 AM] Opened session successfully on Ipcc

[02:10:41 AM] Backup is 1% complete.

[02:10:41 AM] Copying /STI/Backup/CRS/clusters.properties to C:\DOCUME~1\CRSADM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\_8EF792BE_4448_46CF_9403_1006E8579197_20366\GetProperties23293.properties on 10.10.10.38

[02:10:41 AM] [Error] Error: unable to load clusters.properties; nested exception is:

com.cisco.archive.ArchiveSystemIOException: UNSPECIFIED_ERROR; Failed to retrieve /STI/Backup/CRS/clusters.properties

[02:10:47 AM] Session closed successfully

[02:10:47 AM] [Error] Could not backup Cisco Customer Response Solutions successfully on Ipcc.

Conditions:

BARs Server attempting to backup BARs target. The BARS trace file under

"C:\Program Files\Cisco\Trace\BARS" of the BARS server

shows the error:

[02:10:41 AM] Inside function modGetFromArchive

[02:10:41 AM] Connecting to \\10.10.10.38\C$

[02:10:41 AM] modGetFromArchive =-2147417842

[02:10:41 AM] GET_FROM_ARCHIVE_REQUEST failed with error: -2147417842

The specific failure is the GET_FROM_ARCHIVE_REQUEST failure and is independent of any messages about the clusters.properties file.

Workaround:

Shut down BARS on the BARS server by doing the following:

1. Close all of the IE in all TS sessions and console

2. Go to Start>Programs>Administrative Tools>Component Services.

3. In the window that opens, right click on Component Services>Computers>My computer>COM+ Applications>BARS, and select "Shut down"

4. Rerun the restore / backup that was failing.

Hello Tim,

Thanks for your fast answer. I am sure our customer is using a 4.X version, however I'll check it out today.

I'll try restarting the BARS server, we couldn't do it by the time we applied the workaround, then I'll tell you if this fixes the problem.

Regards,

Hello,

It didn't work, we applied the procedure above and restarted the BARS server physically and it still fails. See the last log:

IPCC version is 4.0(3) and CCM version is 4.1(3)sr2. Any idea? otherwise I'l open a case with the TAC.

Sorry, no other ideas.

I would speak to TAC. More than likely it will need an ES up SR upgrade to resolve it...

We have same problem as above. We get below error during CRS Backup.

IPCCX (v.4.0(4)), CCM 4.1(3)sr7

Did u manage to resolve this issue??

Thanks.

Yes, I opened a case with Cisco and we found that this problem can be caused by several reasons:

1. Bug ID CSCse15624

2. Bug ID CSCsd73411

3. BARS version, I was using version 4.0(8) and they recommended to migrate to the most recent version, in my case it was 4.0(14)

Tell me if this helped.

Daniel

Unintall BARS 4.0.8 and upgrade to the latest version of BARS (4.0.14). Configure BARS and then run a manual backup.

- Make sure you stop and disable CSA and antivirus during uninstall/reinstall of BARS.

- If you have problems even with latest version of BARS, then uninstall CSA and install version 5.0.0.225 or higher (believe current in 5.0.0 train is build 235).
