Registering IP Phone over internet

Hi Everyone, 

I would like to if I can register phones to the CUCM in my office over internet from other locations. If so, what are the challenges? I remember I can't register phones through Public IPs long back.

Configure MRA or phone VPN for that, will depend on the phone models

Thanks for your quick response. I am aware of MRA but not phone VPN. 

What boggling my mind is how CUCM can reject a registration request its getting over internet. When there is reachability to the CUCM, it should process request and register the phone, how CUCM declines the registration? that mechanism I would like to know..
