Setting up weather service on IDLE screen of 7962 and 7975 ip phones?

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of configuring a local weather display on the idle screen of 7962 and 7975 phones?  We are currently using CUCM 8.5.  Any input is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

first you will need to learn how to build IP Phone services.

This is the denifitive guide on that topic:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/all_models/xsi/8_5_1/xsidevguide851.pdf

No matter where you pull your weather from, you will require a web server to take the weather data and convert it into something the phone can render.

There are a few services out there on the web that take care of the conversion for you, but then you have to enable DNS on your phones and allow them to get out to the Internet for this to work.  If you already have that setup, then it's not a big deal.  Here's one I know of: http://phone-xml.berbee.com/

What you can do from here is, build a new phone service for testing your weather app, and subscribe it to a test phone only.  This way, no other suers can see it while you're working on it.

Then, once you are ready for full scale deployment, change the IDLE URL Enterprise Parameter (or bulk change it on a per phone basis).

Thanks.  Do you know the singlewire link that Requires No Prompting for the weather?

I am using this:

http://www.singlewire.com/freeservices/localweather?where=53703.

but it keeps prompting for the country first.

http://www.singlewire.com/cgi-bin/weather.pl?country=us

then I need the right syntax for the right zip code.

Just include it in the original request like this:

http://www.singlewire.com/freeservices/localweather?where=53703&country=us

You da man.  Thanks again.

Do you if there is a way to do this through a proxy server instead of the phones routing out directly?

Can that IP Phone Proxy field be entered in during Production hours?

if i am in a small country and we are not using ZIP codes, what could be the URL link syntax ?

thanks
