Unity MWI integration

We have a Siemens Hi-Path 4000 phone system. We also have Cisco Unity 4.0(3) running. Now some Siemens phone users are checking their Voice Mails from Cisco Unity. We have a QSIG connection between the Cisco Gateway & Siemens Gateway.

What configutaions are required on both Siemens side & Cisco Unity end to enable MWI feature to work for Siemens phones? Presently, Siemens phone users can listen to their Voice Mails by dialing Unity, but they don't get MWI notification unlike phones registered to Call Manager. This is a very complex query & it will be great if someone can help me out or drop a few hints.

A PIMG would only be required if you can't get what you need across the QSIG trunk. Here's an example where it seems MWI worked without any need for PIMG...

But these app notes are intended to be examples, not requirements. Obviously if you're using different hardware or software, then your results may differ. I'm more of a Unity guy so I can't say much on how a different MGCP gateways would impact the flow.

You might check here for examples of QSIG configs between CUCM and Siemens. Many of the app notes (most all of the newer ones) include some MWI comments.

BTW, if everything to/from Unity is routed through CUCM, i.e. you're not using PIMG between Unity and Siemens, then there is nothing special to configure on Unity. Unity will handle MWI for Siemens phones exactly the same as it does for Cisco phones. CUCM will need to relay MWI requests across the QSIG trunk as appropriate.

Eric,

Thanks a lot. I was going through the docs yesterday. We are not using PIMG. Is it required at all for MWI integration?

Also the document says that we require a Catalyst switch. But we are using an MGCP gateway ( 2610 series router)here. Is that sufficient?

Thanks,

Das.

Thanks Eric for your terrific assistance. You have been most helpful. Have a nice day. ( Sorry for the late reply)

Hi Eric,

Do you have an update link for the above? This one seems to be broken:

http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/en/us/guest/products/ps7240/c1237/ccmigration_09186a008087f486.pdf

I don't recall specifically which one that was but here's a listing of CUCM interop app notes. The more recent ones should all include results for centralized voicemail (e.g. does MWI work across the trunk). Hope this helps.

Thanks Eric!
