Universal Night Bell on VG224

We cut over one of our remote sites last week to all IP. Our remote sites usually consist of anywhere from 8 to 32 Cisco IP phones as well as up to 48 ports of analog supporting that number of single line wall phones throughout the site. We have a claxton at a number of these sites, last week being the first one and when dialed up; it seems likes it rings once then goes dead; ( the port rings once then goes dead, one never hears the claxton). I rolled the cross connect and received the same effect. I was wondering if I will be required to install an external ring generator to provide the proper ring voltage to the claxton or night bell.

Thanks

Roy Thomas

Yes, especialy if the wiring is long or thin wire, you may need a ring current booster.
