Is it best practice to "shut" unused voice-ports on a VG when MGCP is involved and there is no config on the port in CUCM?
If yes, why?

Hi,
My personal recommendation is shutdown all the unused ports on the gateway. I had occasion where the gw cpu went high due to these units used ports we're trying to register with call manager. I had spent lot of time to get the bottom of it and finally put all these ports manual shut down. The CPU gone low.

Shalid.

I agree with your assessment.
Can you point to a Cisco document that backs up what you are saying?
We are using MGCP rather than SIP.
A coworker said "if there are no DNs on the MGCP configuration in CUCM, delete the ports from CUCM; don’t shut the ports on the gateway itself."
I found that if a port is deleted on CUCM, the VG will still register to CUCM.
I want educate my coworker with a Cisco best practice document that references MGCP configured voice gateways.
Thanks for your response.
