I'm new to UCS having inherited a system from a merger. I seem to have almost everything working however I'm trying to direct attach it to a Dell Compellent via iSCSI and apparently 'Appliance' ports are the way to go however here the problem starts.
I'm using 2x 6248UP Fabric Interconnects in 'End Host' mode.
Kernel Version : 5.0(3)N2(4.13b)
System Version : 5.0(3)N2(4.13b)
Service Pack Version : 4.1(3)SP0(Default)
Package Version : 4.1(3b)A
We have two ports (31/32) from each FI connected directly into ports 3 & 4 of each Compellent controller at 10Gbit via fibre.
I'll be using jumbo frames and I don't want to use tagging so iSCSI traffic will be either an access port or a 'native' VLAN.
If I set the Appliance ports to 'default' VLAN, they link to the Compellent without problem. This works as either Trunk or Access.
If I set them to any other VLAN, the link drops with 'ENM source pinning failed' error. This happens if I create a completely unused VLAN in the Appliance cloud which would appear to rule out any server issues. As the default VLAN is 'global' I've been creating VLANs with the exact same settings as default (in the Appliances cloud) but they don't link.
I see conflicting info online about if the same VLAN must be created in the 'LAN Cloud' or not however I am to understand that after a certain software version (2.?) this doesn't matter, and this system I'm told was updated quite recently. I have tried creating the same VLANs in the LAN Cloud with the same name, with different names, etc. but only the default VLAN will link.
I have tried rebooting the Fabric Interconnects with no change.
....I assume this isn't normal...? Any ideas?
