Best Way to Add New VLAN to UCS Servers Deployed

If we're using a UCS chassis that has a number of servers deployed w/ 4 vNICs that all seem to have been deployed using an initial template rather than an updating template, how would I add an additional vlan?  I was able to add the vlan under LAN --> VLANs which then makes it available under the  template, but since it's not updating adding it there has no impact on the already deployed hosts.  I can see the original vlans under the NIC but I don't have an option to make any changes there. Instead I have a message:

No Configuration Change of vNICs/vHBAs/iSCSI vNICs is allowed due to connectivity policy.

Can the template be changed from initial template to updating template so that the new vlan can be added without causing an issue with connectivity to existing work around.
