Hi Everyone
My team is currently deploying a Cisco UCS for a client here in Nigeria, we have two chassis, two FI, two MDS san switches, one switch for management and one switch (Nexus 9372px) for Uplink.
We have a challenge currently, after we associated the blade servers, The data traffic couldn’t be transfer or seen on the Nexus 9K.
What I mean by the above is that the ESXi host was assigned a MAC address which we ought to see on the switch using sh mac address-table but nothing was seen.
What could be wrong?
I NEED YOUR ADVICE

- How did you configure your uplinks on the FI ? are the ports configured as Network ports ?
- any vlans's on the FI ?
- On the FI: is Ethernet in End host mode
see eg.

Hi Walter,
I have vlan 101 for management, vlan 102 for vMotion, and vlan 103 for VM.
The FI is in Ethernet End Host Mode.
Can you explain more on the ports being configured as a network ports?
Thanks

In your case with N9k and MDS, you will need
Server Ports—Server Ports handle data traffic between the Fabric Interconnect and the IOM in the chassis
Uplink Ethernet Ports—Uplink Ethernet Ports connect to external LAN Switches. Network bound Ethernet traffic is pinned to one of these ports.
Uplink Fibre Channel Ports—Uplink Fibre Channel Ports connect to external SAN Switches. Network bound Fibre Channel traffic is pinned to one of these ports.
Is your link between FI and N9k up ?

Hi Walter,
The Link between FI and N9K is up.
kindly find attached report I pulled out from sh mac address-table vlan 101.
I'm still having the same problem.
sh mac address-table vlan 101 is showing limited mac addresses
sh mac address-table vlan 102 and vlan 103 are not even showing any mac addresses.

Hi
Did you install the ESXi on the local disk ?
Did you configure ESXi ? IP address, mask, gateway ?
Did you specify a vlan in the ESXi configuration
Can you ping the ESXi management IP ?
Do you have a native vlan ?
Walter.

Hi Walter,
we boot to SAN
Yes..The ESXi has been configured with IP add, mask and gateway
we didn't specify vlan for ESXi config
We have a native vlan

Is the Management IP address in the native vlan ?
Can you ping ESXi ?
