CIMC Inband access issue on UCS-B series

Hello,

New to networking implementation and design. Having issues with CIMC inband issue with UCS-B series.I setup a packet capture on the fabric interconnect A uplink. I can see ARP for the CIMC inband IP address. But no reply from UCS. I disabled the uplink interfaces on the B side to localize the issue. All on default VLAN 1. (Security is not a constrain in this environment). Does anyone has any suggestions I can try?

Thanks,

SN

Greetings.

Can you take a quick look through http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/integrated-management-controller/118367-configure-cimc-00.html which has example setup and step by step screen shots, and make sure you haven't missed any steps.

Even if security isn't a big concern, it would still be better to use something other than Vlan 1, unless you have no control over the upstream switches.

How many uplink ports connected to your northbound switch do you have, and are they all connected to the same switch (no disjoint layer 2 ?)?

What is is your UCSM code level, and type of blade you assigning the inband IPs to?

Only certain blades (M3) or higher can use in-band management..

Thanks,

Kirk..

Hello Kirk,

Thanks. I will go through that document. From an initial reading I understand that there is a dedicated VLAN for KVM. Our final goal is to follow the same design. But curious as to why it wont work with the default VLAN. Also concerned that we might be overlooking something more important.

There is only one uplink port (active/enabled) from FI-A to northbound switches. I have disabled 2 uplink ports on FI-B and the second uplink from FI-A. No disjoint layer 2 as far as I can tell. The ports were disabled to localize the issue to one port on FI-A.

UCSM version is 3.1(1e) and the blade type is UCSB-B200-M3.

Thanks,

SN

If you check the equipment tab, for a blade, on general Tab, scroll down to near bottom of right pane and expand the CIMC Connection Details

For the Managing Instance, what FI side is currently assigned?

Thanks,

Kirk...

Kirk,

Managing instance is A.
