Hello,

We are preparing a setup for a new VMware environment, on CISCO UCS B200-Series (M4 and M5) and we have VIC 1340 running 1.6.0.37 driver, connected by FI (6248UP and 6332-16UP, running 3.1(3h), soon 3.2(3h)) to MDS SAN to HP 20800R2 storage. The VMware version will be 6.5 and 6.7. We are planning to use big datastore (16Tb), instead of our current 4Tb, and we were checking for all recommendations from VMware for SAN tuning, so we have found this document KB document at VMware, https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1267 , which links us to CISCO document: https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/solutions/collateral/data-center-virtualization/unified-computing/guide-c07-730811.pdf

But this document is from 2014, and not covering 6.x VMware.

Could you please suggest what settings should we use ?

Thank you

Though document is old but it covers 6.5 & 6.7 as well. Basically this is a "config guide" where fnic min requirement is (1 .5 .0 .45). Be aware of doc bug- https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCvi38560/?reffering_site=dumpcr

Please rate if you find it helpful.

I don't think there's really anything new for fnic tunables in ESXi 6.5-6.7.  I would recommend looking for any documentation that your storage vendor (HP) has for host configuration.  I'm not familiar with those arrays, but I've configured 6.5 hosts for EMC and Pure arrays, and found that the different vendors have different recommendations for configuration.  For example, EMC recommends opening up the queue LUN depth for XtremIO all-flash arrays (setting I/O throttle count to 128 in your FC Adapter policy), and Pure recommends keeping the default.  I hope this helps!
