Expansion Hard Disk Vmware Esxi 5.1

Hello,

I have a doubt with the exansion of hard disk in vmawre esxi 5.1 in RAID 1.

We have the following:

- 4 HD 500GB each one

- RAID 1

And we want to add 4 HD in this RAID:

- 8 HD 500 GB each one

- RAID 1 ( 4HD - 4 HD)

How can I do this without losing data?

Best Regard.

Do you want the new 4 disks to be part of the existing RAID 1 or you want to create a whole new datastore from the new 4 disks?

Hello,

I want that the new 4 disks would be part of the existing RAID 1.

Thanks

I think that is not possible (I think) cause your disks will not have a way to mirror the information in the existing 4 disks... you can actually get more benefits from RAID 10 when you do mirroring and stripping at the same time (if your OS supports it, which most of the OSs do).
