Ping to ESX server timeout

Here's what we have:

- two Blades M250

- two fabric interconnets

- one nexus 5000

We have created two Service Profiles and assign to each blades. ESX 4.1 is already installed on both blades.

The probelm is we can't ping to both ESX server concurrently. We are able to ping to the one server  but the other is timed out.

And we found the error message below:

Please share your experience.

Thanks,

Hello Moehatdee,

I assume you are trying to ping the vmkernel IP address of ESXi system.

Are you able to ping the gateway device ?

Do see the ARP entry on gateway device for the ESXi IP address ?

Is MAC address learned on the FI / switch ?

If not, we need to check the vlan configuration on FI , vNICs, VMware vmnics and upstream L2 switch.

There is many things that can cause the health:inoperable.  The most common times we'll see this is the following:

1) A DIMM is failing in the server.  Normally this would produce another fault, but sometimes you need to check the SEL log to see what is happening.

2) There is only 1 CPU in the server.  Once again the SEL log would show some errors (look for voltage errors)

As for the ESXi not working, make sure the ESXi host that isn't working is tagging the correct VLAN under "management network" on the ESXi host.  Also make sure that you only have one NIC selected.
