We use Host Firmware Package Policies inside SPs to upgrade the Blade Firmware.
It has been working great.
Normally we do things in this order:
1. Change the Host Firmware Package in a SP, "User Ack" the reboot to trigger the Blade firmware upgrade.
2. When the blade firmware upgrade is completed, boot in to the OS (Windows or ESXi) and upgrade the vnic and vhba drivers, then reboot again.
Since the above steps involve 2 reboots, we were thinking if it is ok to save 1 reboot by first upgrading the OS vnic vhba drivers, then "User Ack" a reboot so that both the drviers and the firmware will be included in a single reboot?
E.g.,:
1. Upgrade the vnic and vhba drivers in the OS (Windows or ESXi). Don't accept the reboot prompt inside the OS.
2. In the UCS SP, change the Host Firmware Package, "User Ack" the reboot to trigger the Blade firmware upgrade.
Result: A single reboot instead of two reboots.
Is this ok to do so in that order, and is it supported?
