We have 3 UCS C210 M2 running ESXi 5.5, how does Cisco handle the updating of the hosts to the latest version if the hardware is on the VMware HCL? These are running our Cisco CM and Unity 9.1 VM's.

Hi,
if my understanding is correct, you would like to upgrade your CUCM and CUC to the newest version, from version 9.x to version 11.x (for example).
Are you able to access them via HTTP?
Best regards

Greetings.
Please make sure you check Cisco's interop matrix at http://www.cisco.com/web/techdoc/ucs/interoperability/matrix/matrix.html and choose C series Stand alone servers, 1.43(v,w,x,y) for UCS release. From there you can choose the ESXi version you are intending to update to, along with the required driver versions for NICs/raid controller, etc. This is assuming you are going to apply one of the latest HUU/firmware updates
Below are some good resources in regards to UC app requirements for VMware, versions, etc..
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Virtualization_for_Cisco_Unified_Communications_Manager_(CUCM)
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_in_a_Virtualized_Environment
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_VMware_Requirements
Basically, you need to check that your application supports the VMware version you want to upgrade to, and that the Vmware version you want to upgrade to is supported on the UCS/HUU firmware level you have (or need to upgrade to, along with required drivers)
Thanks,
Kirk...

Thank you both! Marcelo I am looking to update CUCM and Unity from 9.1 to the lastest stable release. At the same time I'd like to update my ESX hosts from 5.5 to 6.
Kirk great details here I will check this out on Monday and report back.
