C210 M2 Fan Speed too high with non-ECC RAM

We are trying to setup a C210 M2 and we are finding that with non-ECC RAM installed the fans run at around 5600 RPM.  If we pull that RAM out and replace with ECC (with temp sensors), then the fans run normally - around 2200 RPM.  The docs state that non-ECC RAM does not have temp sensors, but it doesn't mention the fan problem.  Is there a way to correct this?  Or do we just have to use ECC RAM?

We have updated the CIMC and BIOS with the latest firmware.

Can you provide the link to the document you are referencing as well as the Cisco part numbers to the memory you are using.

Thank You,

Dan Laden

Here is the document that says that non-ECC RAM doesn't have temp sensors:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/hw/C210M1/install/replace.html#wp1073477

And we were not using Cisco RAM.  We were using OCZ RAM part number OCZ3P1333C9LV24GS

Supported DIMMs

The qualified and supported part numbers for this component are subject to change over time. For the most up-to-date list of replaceable components, see the following URL and navigate to the page for your server model and generation:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/ps10265/ps10493/c-series_part_numbers.html

Memory Options
2 GB DDR3-1333 MHz RDIMM/PC3-10600/single-rank 1 Gb DRAMs     N01-M302GB1
4 GB DDR3-1333 MHz RDIMM/PC3-10600/dual-rank 1 Gb DRAMs     N01-M304GB1
8 GB DDR3-1333MHz RDIMM/PC3-10600/dual-rank 2 Gb DRAMs     N01-M308GB2
1 GB DDR3-1066 MHz Unbuffered DIMM/PC3-10600/single-rank 1 Gb DRAMs     A02-U301GB1
2 GB DDR3-1066 MHz Unbuffered DIMM/PC3-10600/dual-rank 1 Gb DRAMs     A02-U302GB1

The memory you have is not a supported model.

But to answer the question.  The system is monitoring the temperature of the system and should be able to read the DIMM temperature.  When it cannot, they system will assume a communication failure.  As a precautionary step, the system will pull more air into the system just in case the temperature is elevated.

Hope this helps,

Dan Laden
