Hi Experts,
could you please let me know how can I change the IP address of live UCS C series server? I saw an option in vsphere to edit the IP address (below snapshot)- but need to confirm is it the right way to perform the change? what will be the impact? do I need to restart the box to get change effect?
will it take from DHCP if i choose option Obtain IP settings automatically as shown below; or do i need to make the changes in CLI?
similarly , is there any way i can change the CIMC ip address without booting the server. the steps are explained in another thread- is it the only way to change the CIMC IP address?
Regards,
Shalid

You have 2 IP addresses: one for CIMC, and one for vmkernel interface for mgt and vmotion.
Changing the CIMC IP address doesn't impact the OS (ESXi in your case).

Hi Shalid,
As walter correctly said there are diffrent ip add the way you are changing is vmotion vmk of Esxi.
you can change the CIMC ip add from browser directly and it should not affect the OS.
Thanks

Thanks Walter and Sourabh. .
I got that about cimc that changes can be done without esxi server reboot. But I required to change the ESXI (vm kernel interface ) up address. How do I do this ?
***IP address which we usually use to login to vsphere.

This KB should help you change the vmk0 IP address:
https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1031111
I would make this change during a planned maintenance window.

thank you all for useful response.
i believe i got what i need from below KEDB.
https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/index.jsp#com.vmware.vsphere.install.doc/GUID-3F02BCA8-EF6C-4F02-9F12-3071AA2D124A.html
which confirm that my initial screen shot is right and i may need to restart the server or network service. i will do the changes and confirm the result.
Thank you guys for useful tips.

Yes you can change this the way you mentioned.
if you are doing this in your test lab then it 's fine, if production environment better you schedule a maintenance window and all stakeholders informed.
