Cisco UCS Blades equipped with a Fusion IO card

Has anyone done Cisco UCS Blades equipped with a Fusion IO card, in a ESXi VDI environment ?

e.g. can one just install the proper driver for ESXi, and then access Fusion IO card as a disk ?

Is it correct, that this doesn't require a Raid controller ?

Thanks

Walter.

There is no RAID configuration to do, only driver installation, is one single devide PCI-E that has the capability to control the access to disk internally with builtin processor.

In the vmware VDI enviroment, you can benefit in two ways.

  • As a single local storage device with high performance access. (there is no vmotion capability).
  • With ioVDI software to create a data cache from back-end storage.

Both ways will speed up your applications, as local storage you have the maximum performance, because there is no software/driver to handle what will be cached.

To take advantage of high availability you can look to fusion-io ION solution or wait for Cisco starts sell whiptail high performance storage.
