Fabric Interconnect 6248

Does 6248 support 1Gb Copper based RJ45 transceivers?  Was looking at the data sheet and since each and every port supports either 1 or 10Gb LAN, Native Fiber Channel and FCOE ports which means that each port requires a transceiver.  There were lots of option for SFP or SFP+ such as 10Gb Copper Twinax, MMF, SMF, 1Gb MMF/SMF Fiber, but didn't find any part# for 1Gb RJ45 Transceiver.  Also, what kind of transceiver will require for Native FC or FCOE?  Didn't find any part# for those either.

Thanks,

Native FC: A 6248 comes with a few 8gbps sfps out of the box if memory serves  I think four per interconnect?  Additional 8gbps are DS-SFP-FC8G-SW

Copper 1Gbps: GLC-T

Note: you must manually specify the port speed as 1000 when you use the GLC-T. All Ethernet ports are set to 10gbps and won't auto negotiate with the SFP. Its easy enough -- just go to the physical port listing on Equipment, click appropriate interface, click show interface and pick 1 gbps. All done.

I don't have any experience with FCoE so hopefully someone else can chime in.

Greetings.

The 6200 series spec sheet you've already visited (http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-b-series-blade-servers/6200_SpecSheet.pdf)

FCOE will run over a supported 10Gb Ethernet twinax, or 10Gb Ethernet Optical SFP.  FCOE from a transceiver perspective, just requires 10Gb ethernet.

Native FC transceivers are listed as :

DS-SFP-FC4G-SW 4-Gbps Fibre Channel SW SFP, LC (for FC configured Unified ports)
DS-SFP-FC8G-SW 8-Gbps Fibre Channel SW SFP+, LC (for FC configured Unified ports)
DS-SFP-FC8G-LW 8-Gbps Fibre Channel LW SFP+, LC (for FC configured Unified ports)

As far as 1000 base-T technologies go, either one of the following should allow you to connect a RJ45 copper cable.

SFP-GE-T 1000BASE-T SFP, extended temperature range

GLC-T 1-Gigabit Ethernet copper SFP module

Good article on 10-base-t http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4900-series-switches/white_paper_c11-609513.html

Additional 10GbBase-T article

Cisco transceiver interop matrix: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/GE_Tx_Matrix.html

What are you intentions for connecting the 1Gb link?

Hope this helps,

Kirk...

Thank you both!

Kirk, I was just curious.  It supports it so I wanted to know if it supports 1Gb RJ45 transceiver.
