Fabricpath or OTV in DCI (Pro's and Con's)

Hi to All,

We are in the process of migrating our current DC and DR from 6500 Series and FWSM to N7K, 5K and 2K with ASA 5585 also. We have two existing data center connecting via redundant dark fiber. In our new design with Nexus 7K, 5K and 2K with ASA 5585 there are two N7K in Main DC with two VDC's one for the Access on the user side and one for the Server side an aggregation switch will be use (5K) and extender (2K) for the server side. The two Data Center are both identical. Currently we are deciding which technology we will use inside the two DC and the DCI as well. If you can provide me the pro's and con is using the following technology below I would really appreciate;

1. VPC in both DC and DR while the DCI will be (OTV).

2. VPC+ in both DC and DR while the DCI will be (OTV).

3. VPC in both DC and DR while the DCI will be (Fabricpath)

4. VPC+ in both DC and DR while the DCI will be (Fabricpath)

Also if you can enlighten me about the FHRP caveats with all these technologies. Thank you in advance...

Note: Please see the drawing for your reference also...

I would post your question in http://yves-louis.com/DCI/

Yves Louis is a highly qualified Cisco Consultant with exactly the know how you are looking for.

did you look at the 9K platform ?

hi rrowlandkumc,

we do have nexus 7009 platform, we decided to go for OTV as the DCI and vPC inside the DC.

We are migrating from the VSS/7Ks we own to a fabricpath based DCI as in the image.

I am putting down the process to get there @ http://multisitedci.blogspot.com/  if you are interested.

Leeroi,

  Hopefully this does not violate terms of service.
