Hi,
I have a UCS system running on version 2.1(1a) and I need to upgrade it to 3.1(1e).
I could not find any related document for upgrading from this version to 3.xx
can it be done directly or should I go into intermediate version such as 2.2(5) or so?
Thanks in advance.

I assume your UCS infrastructure is currently/2.1?
Upgrade from 2.1 to 3.1.1 would need a two step upgrade from 2.1 -> 2.2 and 2.2 ->3.1.1e
So the steps are
1) Upgrade UCS infra to 2.2.x release
2) Upgrade blades to 2.2.x release
Procedure:
3) Upgrade UCS infra to 3.1.1e
4) Upgrade blades to 3.1.1e or a suitable release
Procedure:
As mentioned in the link
"Before upgrading to Cisco UCS Manager Release 3.1, ensure that the existing infrastructure and server bundles are on a Cisco UCS Manager 2.2(x) release, or later releases.
Important:
Upgrading from infrastructure bundles earlier than Cisco UCS Manager Release 2.2(1a) is not supported."
Hope that helps, please mark any solution as correct this will help others fine a solution faster.

Hello,
Please review the release notes for UCSM 3.1:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/release/notes/CiscoUCSManager-RN-3-1.html
This will list any known caveats, deprecated hardware, and necessary pre-requisites before the upgrade.

Thanks for the quick response.
I am at version 2.1 and the target is to be at 3.1 so according to the links you provided, it looks like the upgrade process must be done in two stages just like you said.
Thanks again.
