Mix 2104XP and 2204XP

I have a chassis with one 2104XP module and B200M2 servers

Can I put a 2204XP module and B200M3 servers to this chassis?

Hi Hoang,

Are you looking at this mix of IOM as part of the migration or normal operations?

You will be able to install the two IOM in the mix (please note: you would need the UCSM / FI running the minimum supported code for 2204 XP), however i would suggest you not to run them in the mix for long since this is not a supported and tested topology and you might face unknown issues. depending upon the service profile configuration you might even have profile association issues. Both the IOMs exchange are aware of each other and in case either of them is not able to collect the desired information we could see issues there as well.

Installing the B200 M3 blade with an IOM should not be an issues (again with the minium required software version)

I have a fabric interconnect 6248UP, run 2.0(2q) software in standalone mode.

I buy a new FI 6248UP for cluster configuration.

So do I need to upgrade firmware to match each other before?

Cluster configuration requires symmetrical connection topology, but can I connect a chassis with only one IOM to a cluster FI (of course, no redundancy)?

Here is what you need to do:

1) First configure the new FI as another standalone deivce,

2) Upgrade the firmware to match the current one i.e. 2.0.2q

3) Erase the config on the new FI and get it to the initial config mode again

4) Enable the cluster on the current standalone:

5) Connect the ports on the new FI, mgmt and l1&l2

6) complete the initial config of the new FI, you can choose it to connect to an exiting cluster.

I am not sure if i got the last part correct, but an IOM can connect only to one FI. In your case, you need not change the connections between the current FI and the IOM on the chassis. You can connect the other IOM to the new FI. You will have to configure the ports on the new FI as the server and uplink ports and any other ports as required.

I followed your instructions to upgrade ucsm and all firmware to ver 2.0(4a), and all works well

Do you have any document about all parameters of hardware components in ucsm?

I add a PSU into an existing chassis. It works well, but in ucsm, column "thermal", "performance" and "voltage", it shows N/a status. And in cpu, column "operability" show N/a status.

I think it's not a problem, but I need to explain to my boss :|. If you have any document, plz share with me.
