Other Branded HDD with UCS C240

Dear Experts,

I've installed 8 Dell 2.4TB, SAS HDD with UCS C240 M5. RAID Card Model is 'Cisco 12G Modular Raid Controller'. I've configured RAID5 with one Global Hot Spare. There was no error or alert when doing this. But after one day one HDD fails (Slot-5). I've replaced the faulty HDD with new good. 2nd day another HDD fails (Slot-6). I've tried both HDD with Dell server both are working without error.

What could be the reasons? Is there any restrictions to use other OEM HDD with ? If not what can be the issue?

The various UCS SAS HBAs and Raid controllers generally have a customized firmware tailed to work with the CIMC, including thermal and power information.  If you are dropping in drives not on the spec sheet (i.e. unsupported drives), then your results will vary.
