Replacing C200 M2 chassis

We are going to replace an RMA C200 M2 chassis. There are 2 disks in the old chassis running RAID 1.

What is the proper procedure of replacing the chassis so that the 2 disks can be transferred without losing any data?

Hello Daniel,

If you are using onboard RAID controller, make sure you accept the RAID configuration from the HDD upon initial boot.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/hw/C200M1/install/RAID.html#wp1016557

It is NOT required if you are using PCI based RAID controller card and if you are NOT replacing the RAID controller card.

Also, be sure to move the HDDs to same slot in new server.

Thanks Padma. We are using LSI 1064E MEZZ card and we are not replacing it but only the chassis. The RAID configuration is stored on the card and so the step you mentioned is not needed. Am I correct?

I read the link you provided and it mentions the steps to restore the RAID configuration to the new RAID controller.

If the old RAID controller is removed and the configuration is stored on it, when inserting the new RAID controller, where does the RAID configuration come from?

Since we are not replacing the RAID controller, all we need to make sure that the HDDs are moved to the same slot numbers.

RAID information would be present on RAID controller and as metadata on HDDs.

Thus when we replace the RAID controller, the new controller can read the information from existing HDDs and build the old RAID configuration.

Padma thanks a lot for your explanation.
