Hello,
I am setting up a UCS240M3 with 12TB (3TB X 4). I used the SCU to create RAID 5 from all disks using maximum size of 12TB. I installed win2k8 R2 and noticed it used about 15Gb (i did not select this size during install, there were no options for drive size). In disk management i see two unallocated space with the remaining of the total hard drive space.
I cannot extend the C drive over 2TB, and cannot use my unallocated space. If I try to create a simple volume from the un allocated space, the maximum size is 2TB as well.
How do i go about setting of the virtual disk in UCS and use all 12TB
Thanks
Nki

Hi Niki,
The controller creates and recognizes RAID Arrays greater than 2TB (terrabytes). The operating system does not see the array or will not allow a greater than 2TB partition. Why?
This information applies to the following Operating System(s):
- Microsoft DOS
- Microsoft Windows v3.x
- Windows Millennium Edition (ME)
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 95c
- Microsoft Windows 95b
- Microsoft Windows 95a
- Microsoft Windows 95
- Microsoft Windows 2000
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
- Microsoft Windows NT 3.51
- Microsoft Windows NT 3.5
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
- Microsoft Windows XP
- Microsoft Windows Vista x64 Edition
- Microsoft Windows Vista x86
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition
- Microsoft Windows 7
- Microsoft Windows 8
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012
Make sure that the operating system does support partitions greater than 2TB. The following is a list of Microsoft operating systems that don't support partitions greater than 2TB:
- Microsoft DOS
- Microsoft Windows v3.x
- Windows Millennium Edition (ME)
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 95c
- Microsoft Windows 95b
- Microsoft Windows 95a
- Microsoft Windows 95
- Microsoft Windows 2000
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
- Microsoft Windows NT 3.51
- Microsoft Windows NT 3.5
- Microsoft Windows XP x86
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Original Release, x86 and x64
If one of the above listed operating systems is used, delete the array and create an array that does not exceed 2TB in total capacity.
The following is a list of Microsoft operating systems that do support partitions greater than 2TB:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 x64 Edition
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
- Microsoft Windows Vista x64 Edition
- Microsoft Windows Vista x86
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x86
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
- Microsoft Windows 7
- Microsoft Windows 8
- Microsoft Windows Server 2012
In order to create a larger than 2TB partition, the disk must be converted to a GPT (GUID Partition Table) disk before creating the partition. Only raw unpartitioned disks can be converted to GPT disks. For more information about GPT disks see Microsoft Knowledgebase Article Q302873.
Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows Vista x64 Edition support booting from a GPT partition only on Intel Itanium platforms.
All versions of Windows Server 2008, Windows 8 and Server 2012 support booting from GPT partitions only for EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) based systems.
