We are trying to setup & ensure automation of backups for our entire UCS environment through UCS Central. Some questions have arisen and we are hoping to get some clarity.
We are implementing the backups for the individual UCS Managers through the Operations Management -> Domain Groups -> Domain Group root -> Domain Group X - Backup/Export Policy screens
for example:
Description: default
Backup State: enable
Backup File Location: Copy to Remote File System
Protocol: scp
Hostname: ucs-postgres-1.xxxxx.yyy
User: ucscentral
Password: ****************
Absolute Remote Path: /ucscentral/itwfull.tgz
Schedule: 1day
Max Files: 30
Note: all of the Domain Group's have a different filename specified. None of them actually appear in the destination filesystem though.
- what format are the resulting files supposed to be in?
- do the resulting files contain backups of all the individual UCS Managers within those Domain Groups?
- If I go out to a shell in the OS on the destination host , I don’t see the filename(s) that we specify in the Absolute Remote Path field in the actual destination directory, instead, I see filenames like: ucscentral-100-dme-db-20150109112524.tgz and ucscentral-100-all-cfg-20150109112724.tgz that appear to be the ones setup for the UCS Central backups
- are we actually doing these UCS Manager backups successfully?
- are they somehow getting copied to these filenames each night/day what are the filenames and how does one specify?
- can you specify what time of day they occur? How? it seems the ucscentral timestamps are 11 in the morning for some reason.
- in the event of a catastrophe, would it be possible to extract an individual UCS Manager backup from the resultant file?
The online help within the product and the UCS Central Users Manual doesn't seem to help much. Is there also a more detailed document that explains this?
