UCS VMware Plug-In Tips and Hints

You can download the plug-in from this link.

http://developer.cisco.com/web/unifiedcomputing/vmware

The install guide is a good starting place, but here are a few tips and hints.

·

  • You will need a HTTP or HTTPS server to share\install the plug-in. ( It’s the only way it works)

  • When you unzip the initial file there is another zip file in the directory. That what you want to share through the http/s server

  • If you use IIS make sure you add IIS_IUSERS and IUSR to the virtual directory.

  • If you are using http you have to add a line to the Windows: C:\ProgramData\VMware\vSphere Web Client\webclient.properties file and append it with 'allowHttp=true'

  • Restart the VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices. This seems obvious, but I haven’t messed with webserver in a while.
  • Make sure you can access the http path before running the register plugin.exe. The registration tool completes no matter what and tells you it’s successful even if it’s some unknown IP address or server

  • After you get everything right, register the plug-in.
  • Then login back into vSphere Web Client. If you don’t see a UCS ICON on the home page. Something went wrong.

  • Register your domain in vCenter

  • Go to vCenter home and the UCS domain will be at the bottom

  • You can see some of the stuff in UCSM. It’s pretty cool. It actually took about 30secs to load… just FYI

The plug in installation does not work with Powercli 5.5!
