UCSM 2.1 fnic driver support

Hello,

Recently we’ve had a few guest VMs lose connectivity, the subsequent troubleshooting has led us to the below VMware KB article stating the resolution is fnic drivers on ESXi hosts being updated to version 1.5.0.45.  Our FIs are all currently 2.1(1f).  The UCS compatibility matrix shows that for 5.1 Update 1 hosts the 2.1(1f) firmware is supported by VMware fnic driver version 1.5.0.20, which is the version we are currently running on for our 5.1U1 hosts.  Based on the VMware KB article we need to upgrade past that version to address this issue, ideally without having to update the overall UCS domain as a whole.

If you look at the VMware compatibility matrix and search on the IO devices, the Cisco M81 and 1280 VICs for 5.1U1 shows the recommended fnic driver as 1.5.0.45 and is supported by firmware version 2.1(1d).  Can anyone confirm that fnic version 1.5.0.45 on our 5.1U1 hosts running with firmware 2.1(1f) is supported?  Does the Cisco Compat matrix just need an update that hasn't been published yet?

Thanks

Chad

Hello Chad,

I received the following reply from one of our experts:

2.1.1.d or 2.1.1f matrix would be the same

http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/interoperability/matrix/r_hcl_B_2-11....

as per it you can run 1.5.0.20 if running esxi 5.1U1, however 1.5.0.45 should work fine as well.

Let me know if this answers your question.

Definitely want to expedite applying any released fnic drivers.  Failure to do so cost a customer substantial downtime.
