UCSM 2.2 with B200 M3 adding addtional vNICs

Dear All,

We are running an old version of the UCSM (verison 2.2(5a)) with 6248UP FIs and have a requirement to add two addtional 2xvNICs to existing blades. All blades are half size and B200 M3 with 1240 VIC. At present we have 2xvHBA and 4xvNIC (vnic 0,1,2,3)  assigned to blades via service profiles created from service profile templates (updating). The ESXi hosts boots  via FC SAN. There is a LAN connectivity policy bound to the service profile template. There has been few discussions in the forum regarding vNIC/vHBA placement issues.

1.Has anybody experienced any issues occuring after adding extra vNICs similar to the above setup

2.Adding the extra vNICs ( vnic 4 and 5)  to the LAN connectivity policy of the service profile template will also auto update the exisiting service profile bound to the blades ?

Appreciate any inputs/comments from the forum?

Thank you,

GA

Re: UCSM 2.2 with B200 M3 adding addtional vNICs

Hi Gaj,

Only problem I can foresee  is "VMware vmnic order changes after adding additional vNICs to UCS service profile in UCS Manager" , if you are using ESXI

https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuv34051/?rfs=iqvred

2.Adding the extra vNICs ( vnic 4 and 5)  to the LAN connectivity policy of the service profile template will also auto update the exisiting service profile bound to the blades ? yes , it will be updated ,however you need to boot the server post these changes.

Re: UCSM 2.2 with B200 M3 adding addtional vNICs

Thank Afroj.

Just to clarify only the vnic numbering order get changed and no impact to exisiting vhba ordering? we have vhba 1 and 2 adpters and ESXi uses to boot and access datastore via FC SAN. vnics are used for LAN connectivity.

Regarding the method explained in the proactive approach "place the vNICs manually according to the current order that"....

does this mean manaully assigning all exisiting vnic and vhba to vcon1 in the vnic/vhbs placement policy page?

Hi ,

I have not see Vmhba.  ordering getting changed , however if it happens you would have to apply the same workaround.

does this mean manaully assigning all exisiting vnic and vhba to vcon1 in the vnic/vhbs placement policy page?  if the issue is seen ,you can use any of the 3 mentioned workaround to overcome.
